French River Cruising-Avignon and Paris Client Review Submitted September 2006
Hi Patty,
The trip was fabulous...everything went according to plan and the hotels were magnificent! The scenery and towns we visited on the cruise were above and beyond my and I believe David's expectations. It is such a beautiful country. Everything you arranged was first class and the people we encountered could not have been more accommodating; the La Mirande in Avignon, the Viking Cruise and staff, the Victoria Palace and the Paris Yachts (also outstanding personal service...we felt like it was our yacht....almost!).
When we checked into the Victoria Palace we found that they had upgraded us to a suite complete with two balconies. The manager left in our room a card for two complementary glasses of champagne to celebrate our first night in Paris. It is a great hotel with great service and the location was within walking distance of most of the places we wanted to visit in the short time we were there. I must add that sometimes it was a half hour walk, but that is what I wanted to do. I didn't want to go around in a car...I wanted to experience the sights, sounds, smells of the city. And we did that and totally enjoyed it all, from dining at small neighborhood restaurants that the hotel recommended, to having lunch in the parks and just absorbing ourselves in the city and visiting the highlights of the city and touring the Museum D'Orsay which was unbelievable. We did not get to the Louvre as it was closed on the day that we thought we would go. But the Museum D'Orsay did not disappoint...it had a vast display of a number of Impressionists; Monet, Matisse, Renoir, Van Gogh, Whistler to name a few. Overwhelming!
I especially want to mention the limo owner/driver, if I recall his name was Claude and was the owner of the service, who took us from the cruise ship in Chalon to Paris. What a delightful man and we enjoyed his company and observations about the countryside immensely. The other drivers were very nice but he certainly stood out.
I do want to mention that we did not experience the arrogance and animosity that we thought we may in Paris. Everyone we encountered was pleasant and accommodating.
Thank you so much for arranging such a special trip for us!
Warm regards,
Dotty Crowley
